Excusez mon Anglaise
Mon Francaise n'est pas bon. Je voulais parler des nouveaux joueurs
I've been putting off my French studies a bit, but some of you might know me from the Maritimes boards -
I just wanted to give a quick run down of the players picked up by the Cataractes yesterday
The main piece of the trade is Reece Peitzsche (that will take you a while to learn to spell haha.) - Keep in mind with this kid he just turned 17 a month ago (his birthday is December 8th). What you'll see from him is a lot of potential, he's got size, he can skate, and he has good hands. He's still young tho, he needs to put on some more muscle and get more reps in this league, still, his upside is a 30-40 goal powerforward. He's a piece the Mooseheads weren't happy to give up, but, it's understandable because despite his tools, he's just not ready to be a regular for a top team. I have a feeling in 2 years, Cats fans will look back on this trade as a huge win because Peitzsche is going to be a player.
Ponzetto, he needed a fresh start. What you're getting with him is a very raw talent who is lacking a bit of confidence. In terms of his size, skating and power, he's above average in every category. He's surprisingly strong, I find recently he's done a really good job getting into the corners and winning puck battles, the problem is, once he has the puck he doesn't want it on his stick. He makes rushed, panicked passes that are way off the mark, and is terrified to shoot the puck. It's not like he has no skill, if he ever finds his confidence he could be a very good player. His hockey IQ is also a bit of a concern, but his physical tools are very good.
It looks like Larmand may not be joining the team, I imagine because of the last-minute nature of the trade, this might have been Cam Russell trying to find Larmand a place to play.
If he ever ends up playing, He seemed to have a hard time adjusting to the QMJHL, but he was continually getting more reliable. He's a good face-off guy, a good, powerful skater with strong footwork... but he also lacks a lot of finish. He's a guy who was well-liked by his teammates and plays a pretty decent defensive game, he also has more offense in him than he's shown, I mean he's had a 30+ point season in the OHL, so he's not as bad offensively as he showed with Halifax... but at the end of the day, I could understand why Shawi would want to give young guys more ice time to develop rather than giving Larmand that ice.
